AVE MARIA, Fla. – Top-ranked Women's Lacrosse held a one-goal advantage over (RV) Ave Maria in the second half on Thursday night but couldn't overcome their halftime deficit.
The Gyrenes took full advantage of their 9 first-half shots to build a 7-4 lead over the Ravens at the break and then held off a second-half push by Benedictine to earn a 14-12 win.
With the score tied at 2-2, Ave Maria scored two straight to take a 4-2 lead over the Ravens and never looked back.
Courtney Frankfurth led the Ravens with 4 goals. She got the scoring started for the Ravens, scoring just over a minute into the game. She scored her remaining three goals in the third and fourth quarter as the Ravens launched their comeback effort.
Kiera Russell scored 3 goals for the Ravens, followed by Kaylen Moore with 2. Claudia Garcia, Solei Geist, and Chanterra Allen added 1 goal each. Moore led the Ravens with 2 assists.
Moore finished with 10 draw controls and led the Ravens with 4 caused turnovers.
Gianna Stalletti and Molly Owen split the game in goal. Stalletti suffered the loss playing the first half with 2 saves. Owen added 5 saves in the second half.
Benedictine returns home and is off until March 18 when they will host No. 6 University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) on Legacy Field.
