William Penn University handed (10) Men's Lacrosse its first loss in the Heart season on Saturday on Senior Day at Legacy Field.
The (RV) Statesmen used a 7-goal second quarter to turn a close game after the first quarter into a 16-7 win over the Ravens.
The two teams combined for 6 goals after the first 15 minutes of play. Jordan Rodriguez put Benedictine ahead with the first goal of the game, we he found the back of the net 17 seconds into the game. After the Statesmen answered with a pair of goals, Rodriguez assisted on a pair of gals from Michael Hogan and Paul Gordon to put the Ravens back ahead 3-2.
Hogan returned the favor for the Ravens first goal of the second quarter when Rodriguez scored with 10:51 remaining in the period. From there, William Penn scored 6 unanswered to take a 10-4 lead into halftime.
William Penn extended their scoring run to 8-0 to start the third quarter before Hogan scored again.
The Ravens finished the third quarter with two more goals from Hogan and James Carson but couldn't push through against the Statesmen.
William Penn held a 45-31 advantage in shots, which included 29 shots on goal. Benedictine finished with 20 shots on goal as both teams registered 13 saves.
Hogan led the Ravens with 3 goals and 1 assist, followed by Rodriguez with 2 goals and 4 assists. Gordon and Carson rounded out the Ravens scoring efforts.
Jacob Clipperton suffered the loss in the goal for the Ravens. He finished with 13 saves, recording 5 over the final 15 minutes of the game.
Joseph Bianchi won 15 of 25 faceoffs and led the team with 6 groundballs. Liam Waldron added 5 ground balls as the Ravens finished with a total of 32. Drew Duran finished with 6 of the Ravens 10 caused turnovers with Carson Huerter adding 2.
Benedictine will close out the regular season on the road next Friday and Saturday as they travel to St. Ambrose University and Clarke University.
