After their 7th-inning rally fell short on Sunday in their opener with Clarke University, Softball was able to bounce back with a shutout in game 2 to earn the split.
Benedictine battled back to score 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning but fell just short, 8-6. In the nightcap, Benedictine held Clarke to just 3 hits en route to an 8-0 win in 6 innings.
In the opener, the Pride used a 5-run third inning to chase starter Kera Willoughby. Willoughby went into the third inning, before giving way to Lacey Foster. She gave up 5 runs off 4 hits before Foster threw the final 5 innings, giving up 3 more runs off 6 hits.
At the plate, the Ravens scored their 6 runs off 7 hits. Kassidy James went 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Madison Zaccardo went 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBI. Clair Heitz went 1 for 3 with a home run and then reached based on an error in the 7th that scored Zaccardo and Abby Pressgrove.
In game 2, Willoughby earned the start inside the circle and was able to keep the Pride in check. She gave up 3 hits with 2 strikeouts while earning the complete-game shutout.
At the plate, the Ravens scored their 8 runs off 8 hits. Heitz added a double with 3 RBI while Natalie Sheffield added a triple. Preserve went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI while Bella Ingui, Zaccardo and Rilee Bell were all credited with an RBI each.
Benedictine returns to the road on April 6 with a doubleheader against MNU in Olathe before returning to Ravens Field to host a Heart doubleheader with Baker University on April 8.
