Benedictine Women's Lacrosse added another piece to their young history on Saturday as the No. 8-ranked, and top-seeded, Ravens earned the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship title.
After winning five championship tournament titles in the KCAC, the Ravens earned a 15-4 win over (RV) St. Ambrose University in a rematch of the 2022 KCAC Tournament Championship game.
It took Benedictine 31 seconds to push across its first goal of the game against St. Ambrose. Chanterra Allen put the Ravens on the board first with an unassisted goal. Courtney Frankfurth added the second goal off an assist from Kaylen Moore and the Ravens were off and running. SAU was able to score on a goal from Audrey Warner to cut their deficit in half but that goal was answered by a 4-0 run as Benedictine scored on goals from Margaux Gelbach, Allen, and Moore twice.
Back-to-back goals from SAU gave the Fighting Bees some offensive momentum that was slowed by Gelbach's second goal, off an assist from Grace Simonson with 39 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
The Ravens held the Fighting Bees scoreless in the second quarter to take a 10-3 lead into halftime and then limited them to just one more goal over the third and fourth quarters en route to the 11-goal win.
Frankfurth led the Ravens with 5 goals while Allen finished with 4. Moore scored 3 goals with 2 assists while Gelbach added 2 goals and 1 assist. Claudia Garcia rounded out the Ravens scoring with a goal while Simonson finished with 4 assists.
Moore led the Ravens with 12 draw controls as the Ravens held a 17-5 advantage. Kiera Rusell led the Ravens with 3 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers as Benedictine finished with a total of 9 caused turnovers.
Gianna Stalletti earned the win in goal, playing the first 30 minutes. She finished the first half with 6 saves before Molly Owen finished off the second half, adding 7 more saves.
Benedictine now waits for the release of the bracket by the NAIA, which will be announced at 3 p.m. Sunday.
