MARSHALL, Mo. – Baseball salvaged the final game of its four-game series with Missouri Valley College on Sunday, beating the Vikings 12-9.
The Vikings were able to get the better of the Ravens during the series with two walk-off wins in games two and three after opening the series with a 9-1 win.
Sunday's series finale saw Benedictine score 9 runs between the top of the second and third innings. They finished the game with 16 hits as Missouri Valley committed 6 errors defensively.
Jackson Sarver earned the win in relief of Ethan Arnold. Arnold threw the first 2 and a third innings before Sarver took the hill for the next 3 and two-thirds. He finished with 6 strikeouts before Ben DeLaForest finished out the game.
Hunter Moffet set the table for the Ravens on offense. He finished the game 5 for 5 at the plate with a pair of doubles, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored. In total, the Ravens recorded 7 doubles as Theo Kummer, Jack, Harpoon, Ashton Neuman, Chase Pearson, and Jack Minnis all finished with a double. Zac Demos added a home run as Harpoon, Neuman and Brylan Haas joined Moffet with 2 RBI each.
Game 1: Missouri Valley 9, Benedictine 1.
The Vikings jumped on the Ravens scoring 6 runs over the first three innings to open the series.
Ben Bowman earned the start and suffered the loss, giving up 5 runs off 8 hits over 2 innings. Matthew Gephardt threw the next 2 innings, holding the Vikings scoreless off 2 hits before Dominic Susanka finished off the game.
Kummer and Neuman each recorded a double at the plate with Neuman driving in the Ravens lone run.
Game 2: Missouri Valley 5, Benedictine 4
Missouri Valley scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn the win over the Ravens.
Sarver suffered the loss, giving up 2 runs off 3 hits in relief of Lance Bolles. Bolles held the Vikings to just one earned run off 6 hits with 3 strikeouts over 6 innings.
Kummer anchored the Ravens offensive effort with a pair of home runs and two RBI as he finished 2 for 3 with 2 runs. Moffet added a home run while Neuman recorded the remaining RBI.
Game 3: Missouri Valley 6, Benedictine 5
After Benedictine rallied to tie the game with four unanswered runs over the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings, the Vikings hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh to seal the series victory.
Andrew Baier three 4 and a third innings in relief of Nelson Klein to keep the Ravens in the game. He finished with 2 strikeouts while giving up 1 earned run off 4 hits before DeLaForest gave up the home run in the seventh.
Demos went 2 for 3 at the plate with a home run and double. Kummer and Harpole finished with a home run each while Moffet added a double. Harpole added 2 RBI to round out the Ravens offensive efforts.
Benedictine wraps up the regular season at home on Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium on Friday and Saturday with a four-game series against MNU. Doubleheaders on both days are scheduled for Noon with Senior Day scheduled for Saturday as well.
