BALDWIN CITY – Baker University was able to hold off Baseball over a four-game series split over Thursday and Saturday due to Good Friday and Easter.
In Thursday's doubleheader, the Wildcats earned a pair of walk-off wins 13-9 and 8-7 before taking the Saturday series 3-1 and 6-3.
Game 1: Baker 13, Benedictine 9
The Wildcats used a 6-run 7th inning that was capped off by a grand slam to earn their first win over the Ravens.
Nelson Klein earned the start on the hill for the Ravens. He threw the first 4 innings, giving up 4 earned runs off 3 hits before Ben DeLaForest, Ethan Arnold, and Dominic Susanka finished off the game. Susanka suffered the loss, giving up the final 5 runs off three hits.
Theo Kummer went 2 for 4 with a run scored a double and 2 RBI. Tyler Marchand added a 3-run home run to finish the game with 4 RBI.
Game 2: Baker 8, Benedictine 7
The Wildcats picked up the second win of the series with a 2-run seventh inning to earn their second walk-off win.
Jackson Sarver earned the start for the Ravens on the hill and went the distance. He gave up 7 earned runs off 8 hits with 7 strikeouts.
At the plate, Marchand hit his second home run of the series to go with two RBI. Ashton Neuman added a home run of his own with 2 RBI. Hunter Moffet went 3 for 4 at the plate with 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Danny Favazza and Jack Minnis added a double each.
Game 3: Baker 3, Benedictine 1
Ben Bowman earned the start on the hill for the Ravens. He held the Wildcats to just a run off 3 hits before Matthew Gephardt finished off the game.
Benedictine scored first before Baker tied the game at 1-1 after three innings. They scored the go-ahead runs in the sixth inning to earn the win.
Marchand was the only Raven with a multi-hit game, going 2 for 3. Chase Pearson finished with a double while Neuman added a triple.
Game 4: Baker 6, Benedictine 3
Benedictine gave up 4 earned runs in the series finale as the Wildcats took advantage of two errors defensively by the Ravens.
The Ravens held a 3-2 lead after 4 innings before the Wildcats plated home 2 runs each in the fifth and sixth innings.
Lance Bolles threw the first 4 and a third innings, giving up 3 runs off 7 hits before Andrew Baier and Cole Voss finished off the game.
Favazza finished with a triple and home run. Neuman added a double and home run while Brylan Haas added a double.
The Ravens return to campus on Saturday and Sunday for a four-game series with Park University. The four-game series with the Pirates marks Alumni Weekend with Sunday's annual Play Catch with Mom Day. Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled for Noon while Sunday's doubleheader is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
