Ravens Volleyball continued its strong start to the 2023 campaign with a home win Friday night.
The Ravens topped the Clarke University Pride 3-0 to improve to 2-0 in conference play.
An 11-0 run propelled the Ravens to an opening-set win. After a Clarke point pulled the Pride to within 1 at 10-9, the Ravens rattled off 11-straight points with 10 of those coming on the serve of Haley Cahill. That stretch gave the Ravens control of the set and they went on to win 25-13 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Ravens notched a .433 attack percentage in the opening set with Regan Bruggeman and Mary Pat Taylor each recording 5 kills.
The Ravens matched the first set by picking up another 25-13 win in the second set. The Ravens continued to attack well, recording a .364 attack percentage in the second set. Bruggeman added 4 kills in the second set.
There wasn't an 11-0 run like in the first set, but the Ravens came out early and took control with a 5-1 lead. They then turned a 10-6 lead into an 18-7 advantage and went on to close out the set for a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Ravens closed out the sweep with a 25-16 win in the third set. The teams were close early in the set, but a 7-0 run by the Ravens gave the home side control and they went on to complete the 3-0 win.
The attack percentage dipped to .270 in the third set, but the Ravens were too much for the visiting Pride. Bruggeman added 4 more kills to finish with a match-high 13 and had a .545 attack percentage. Taylor added 11 kills and Hokulani Sagapolu notched 7. Amber Allen was solid setting up her attackers, recording 25 assists. The Ravens finished the night with an attack percentage of .350.
Sagapolu had 3 aces and 15 digs while Taylor added 2 aces and 11 digs. Cahill also had 2 aces on the night, and Evelyn Arreola had 11 digs.
The Ravens (10-2, 2-0 Heart) will have a quick turnaround as they host the Mount Mercy Mustangs at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 back in Ralph Nolan Gym.
