(20) Football returns to O'Malley Field with 62-28 win over Peru State

(20) Benedictine Football returned to O'Malley Field with another 60-point performance on Saturday as they beat Peru State College 62-28.

After Harry Balke connected on a 22-yard field goal to extend Benedictine's lead to 48-7, the game entered an hour and 45-minute lightning delay with 10:34 remaining in the third quarter. After the delay, the teams combined for 35 points to end the game.

Offensively, the Ravens finished with their second 600-yard game with 601 total yards – 228 yards rushing and 373 yards passing.

Dalton Witherspoon finished just shy of 200 total yards offensive, rushing for 112 while catching 3 passes for 85 yards. He opened the scoring with an 8-yard rush and then scored on a 56-yard pass from Jackson Dooley early in the second quarter and then a 65-yard rush midway through the third quarter – after the lightning delay.

Dooley connected on a total of 4 touchdown passes. The first was on a 6-yard pass to JaShawn Todd in the first quarter and the last two to Jacob Gathright of 18 yards and 16 yards in the second quarter. Dooley finished with 347 yards off 19 of 34 passes, completing passes to 11 receivers. 

Todd added a 37-yard rushing touchdown to go with his receiving touchdown to account for all of the offensive touchdowns.

Benedictine's final touchdown of the game was a 28-yard interception return for a touchdown by Trey Williams for the Ravens final score of the game.

Gathright led the Raven receivers with 87 yards off 5 receptions. Todd finished with 121 total yards, rushing for 37, catching 3 passes for 34 yards, and with 50 return yards – 25 on punt returns and 25 on kickoff returns.

Abram Phillips led the Raven defense with 7 tackles. Fabian Njika, Kyle Roland, Carson Anderson, and Je'zhon Baker added 5 tackles each. As a unit, the Ravens finished with 6 tackles for a loss totalling 26 yards and 2 sacks. Njika and Joseph Burks combined for one sack, while Isaac Anderson had the other. Javhi Blomquist also added a fumble return of 30 yards. 

Benedictine hosts Culver-Stockton College at 1 p.m. on Sept. 23 as part of Family Weekend on campus.
