Women's Soccer picked up their first loss of the season on Saturday.
The Ravens lost to the (12) Columbia Cougars, 2-0, in a matchup that saw the visitors create a lot of pressure offensively.
It was the Ravens who nearly had the opening goal of the contest but Payton Vogelbacher's header deflected off the cross bar.
The teams remained scoreless until the 29th minute when Columbia was awarded a penalty kick for contact in the box. Delfina Blanco converted the attempt into the lower right corner to put the Cougars up 1-0.
Not quite 5 minutes later, the Cougars turned a corner kicked into a 2-0 lead after the ball deflected off a few bodies in the 6-yard box and past Mackenzie Korzenecki.
The two tough-luck goals put the Ravens behind the proverbial eight ball at half.
Korzenecki and the Ravens defense made sure the Cougars stayed off the board in the second half. The sophomore keeper made 10 saves for the Ravens as the Cougars built up a 25-7 shot advantage.
Late in the second half the Ravens started to create more chances, but the bounces didn't go in their favor. Sam Mausbach had a close attempt that trickled wide of the net. The Ravens weren't able to find the goal, falling by the 2-0 score.
Next up for the Ravens will be the finale of their six-game homestand to open the 2023 season. The Ravens (3-1-1) will host the Avila University Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6 on Legacy Field.
