Defense steps up in final Heart cross-divisional win for (22) Football

OSKALOOSA, Iowa – No. 22-ranked Benedictine Football closed out Heart cross-division play with a 10-7 win over William Penn University on Saturday night.

The Raven defense answered the call against the Statesmen, holding William Penn to just 88 yards rushing and a total of 223 total yards on offense. They finished with 2 sacks for a loss of 21 yards, 4 tackles for a total loss of 23 yards, and 3 interceptions. 

After missing a field goal late in the game, the Ravens gave the back to the Statesmen. The drive started with a pair of sacks by the Ravens defense. The first sack came from Dominic Stinking on the first play from scrimmage and was followed by a combined sack from Isaac Anderson and Health Baker. The game was sealed with an interception from Stoneking with 34 seconds remaining – his second of the game.

All of Benedictine's scoring came in the second quarter. Jackson Dooley scored on a 7-yard rush with just over 4 minutes remaining in the second quarter before Harry Balke connected on a 33-yard field goal as time expired to give the Ravens a 10-0 lead at halftime. 

The Ravens finished the game with 383 yards of total offense, with 225 yards rushing. Dalton Witherspoon led the ground attack with 171 yards off 20 carries. Dooley finished with 108 yards on 11 completions while Luke Laskowski added 50 yards on 6 completions. Tanner Zimmerman finished with 43 yards on 3 catches.

Jagger Blubaugh led the defense with 10 tackles. Baker and Blue Caplinger finished with 5 each while Stoneking added 3 total tackles with his sack and 2 interceptions. 

Next week marks the conference-wide bye week setting up the second half of the season, which starts for the Ravens on the road Oct. 14 in Fayette, Mo., against Central Methodist University at 1 p.m.
