Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Peru State takes season series over Men's Basketball with 73-57 win

PERU, Neb. – Trailing by 12 points at the half, Benedictine Men's Basketball made some halftime adjustments and nearly matched Peru State College in the second half.

In the end, the Bobcats were able to hold off multiple runs by the Ravens throughout the second half en route to a 73-57 win.

A game after hitting a program record 20 3-pointers, Peru State used three 3-pointers before the first-half media timeout that led the Bobcats to pull ahead of the Ravens 19-8. A pair of 3-pointers of their own from Jack Vander Woude erased the double-digit deficit and pulled Benedictine back within 5 points. Benedictine held Peru State to just 9 total 3-pointers and 32.1 percent from beyond the arc.

While Peru State was able to build back their lead, Benedictine was able to keep with them offensively. With just under 4 minutes left in the half, a layup from Brycen LaRue made it 37-25 Bobcats before both teams went cold for nearly 3 minutes. Peru State outscored Benedictine 5-2 over the final 90 seconds of the half to take a 12-point lead into halftime.

Benedictine opens the second half with a pair of free throws from LaRue and a 3-pointer from Gino Corridori to close with 7 points only to have those five points answered by 5 points for the Bobcats to pull back ahead by 12 points.

That proved to be the story of the second half as the teams would trade baskets that kept the margin between 12 to 14 points until the final five minutes when an 8-0 run inside the final 4 minutes of the game put the Ravens away for good.

Corridori led the Ravens with 12 points, hitting 3 of 4 from beyond the arc, while Vander Woude added 11 points. Preston Reynolds finished with 9 points while LaRue added 8.

Benedictine hit 8 of 27 from beyond the arc. The 8 3-pointers marked the most made shots from beyond the arc since their total against Culver-Stockton on Dec. 2. The attempts total from beyond the arc matched the second most attempts this season with totals against Baker at home on Dec. 19 and in Baldwin City on Nov. 15.

The Ravens remain on the road Saturday, traveling to Clarke University for a 2 p.m. game against the Pride. In their first meeting of the season on Nov. 18 in Atchison, the Ravens earned a 79-70 win.
