(7) Football limits Missouri Valley en route to Heart South win

MARSHALL, Mo. – Benedictine Football allowed just 14 points against Missouri Valley College on Saturday en route to another Heart South win.

The No. 7-ranked Ravens held a 24-14 lead at the half and then went on to earn a 38-14 win over the Vikings to remain unbeaten in Heart South play.

Benedictine led 21-0 before Missouri Valley scored its first touchdown. Joseph Lagafuiana was on the receiving end of the first of 5 touchdown passes from Jackson Dooley to get the Ravens scoring started on a 38-yard pass. Jacob Gathright caught the second touchdown pass on a 25-yard pass from Dooley and then Lebron Jackson caught a 28-yard pass from Dooley to make it 21-0.

Missouri Valley scored on a 98-yard interception return for a touchdown and then on an 8-yard rush before Benedictine capped off the first half scoring with a 42-yard field from Harry Balke.

Gathright caught his second touchdown pass from Dooley for the Ravens lone score of the third quarter on a 70-yard pass before Dalton Witherspoon capped off the Ravens scoring on the day with a 4-yard pass from Dooley in the fourth quarter.

For the second time this season, the Ravens finished with over 500 yards of total offense as they finished with 506 yards on 65 plays. Dooley finished with 369 yards on 22 of 35 passing. Gathright finished with 147 yards on 4 catches while Lagafuaina added 78 yards on 4 catches. Dooley finished with 34 yards rushing while Witherspoon added 30 yards on 11 carries.

Zachary LaCombe led the Ravens defense with 8 tackles. Heath Baker recorded the Ravens lone sack with 5 total tackles. Baker was also one of 4 tackles for a loss as Dylan Witherspoon and Blue Caplinger joined Baker with a solo tackle for a loss. Hared Herron and Isaac Anderson combined for the remaining tackle for a loss. Isaiah Hasten forced a fumble that was recovered by Javhi Blomquist to round out the Ravens defensive effort.

Benedictine remains on the road, traveling to Olathe on Nov. 2 to take on No. 13 MNU.
