FAYETTE, Mo. – Taking the court for the first time this season as a ranked program, No. 25 Benedictine Volleyball knocked off No. 21 Central Methodist University in five sets.
Benedictine opened the match with a 25-21 win before CMU took the next two sets 25-18 and 25-19. The Ravens rallied for a comeback win in the fourth set 27-25 before they finished off the match with a 15-11 win.
The win over the Eagles marked the second upset of the week for Benedictine, who also beat NAIA-ranked Park University on Tuesday night.
The Ravens finished the match with a .152 attack percentage, with 15 kills in three of the five sets. Four Ravens finished in double figures in kills, led by Winny Harris with 17. Regan Bruggeman added 15, Hokulani Sagapolu had 13, and Maura Lickteig added 10.
Haley Cahill anchored the offensive attack with 52 of the Ravens 64 team assists.
Defensively the Ravens finished the match with 109 digs – a new season high. Evelyn Arreola led the backline with 38 digs, followed by Sagapolu and Cahill with 16. Cate Milroy added 15 digs to round out the backline effort at the net. The Ravens finished with 12 block assists and 4 solo blocks. Lickteig led the way with 4 block assists and 2 solo blocks. Sagapolu finished with 4 while Harris and Lucy Drexel added a solo block each.
The Ravens wrap up their 3-match road swing with a 2 p.m. match in Marshall Mo., against Missouri Valley College. The Vikings knocked off Park in Marshall on Friday night in 5 sets.
