INDIANOLA, Iowa—(RV) Benedictine Wrestling's season started on Saturday with the annual Luther Hill Invite hosted by Simpson College.
The team finished the open with 42 individual wins, with a champion in the freshmen/sophomore division and a runner-up in the open division.
At 165 pounds in the freshman/sophomore division, Christion Griggs scored 20.5 points en route to a championship in the weight class. Griggs won by tech fall over Bryor Newbold (Quincy) (TF 20-4) in the second round. He won by tech fall over Teagen Peiffer (Central) (TF 17-1) in the quarterfinals and he won by decision over Gavin Scheuermann (Grand View) (Dec 10-3) in the semifinals. In the championship match, he won by tech fall over Simon Arredondo (Concordia (Neb.)) (TF 19-4).
At 125 pounds, Jacob Campbell earned a second-place finish with 13.5 points. In the quarterfinals, Cambell won by tech fall over Jacob Downey (Unattached) (TF 20-4). In the semifinals, he won by decision over Riece Graham (St. Ambrose University) (Dec 5-3). In the Championship match, Isaac Gibbs (Indian Hills CC) won by a major decision over Campbell (Maj 15-6).
Jackson Perkins (184 pounds) took third place in the freshman/sophomore division with a 5-1 record scoring 17.5 points. Four of his five wins came by either major deficient or tech fall.
Doug Blaha (197 pounds) earned a 5th-place result in the freshman/sophomore division with a 4-2 record, and Isaac Kauffman (174 pounds) earned a 6th-place restyle in the freshman/sophomore division with a 3-3 record.
The Ravens host the second-annual Loosbrock Duals on Friday and the Service Salute on Saturday. Both events start at 9 a.m. inside the Ralph Nolan Gymnasium.
