Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball holds Park to season low en route to road win

PARKVILLE, Mo. – Headed into play on Wednesday night against Benedictine Men's Basketball, Park University was averaging around 74 points per game. The Ravens held the Pirates over 20 points below that average en route to a 62-53 win.

Benedictine finished the game one off their season-low turnover total with 8 while just missing their season-high rebound total as they finished with a 40-37 advantage on the boards. That combination allowed them to control possession and limit Park's chances on offense as they held them to a new season-low point total.

Baskets from Deaglan Sullivan and Haggan Hilgendorf pushed the Ravens out to an early 5-3 lead. After trading the lead, the Pirates went ahead on a 3-pointer with just over 12 minutes left in the first half. The Pirates used a 7-0 run to pull ahead by 6. After Hilgendorf hit his second 3-pointer, Park matched 3-pointers for layups which allowed them to remain in the lead, 26-25, at the half.

The Ravens took the lead at the start of the second half, this time on back-to-back basket from Hilgendorf. The Pirates answered with 6 straight points and the back and forth started.

From the 14:44 mark of the second half to the 10:35 mark, the game went through 7 lead changes and 1 tie before a 3-pointer from Harrison Kisling put Benedictine back in the lead.

The Ravens never gave back that lead, pulling ahead by as much as 9 points after a 3-pointer and a pair of free throws from Brycen LaRue before they got two final free throws from Ezrah Vaigafa that put the Ravens back up for 9 for the final time.

LaRue finished with a game-high 20 points, followed by Hilgendorf with 15. Sullivan finished with 9 to round out the Ravens leading scorers. Benedictine finished with 32 points in the paint, 11 second chance points off 6 offensive rebounds. They also finished with an 18-4 advantage off the bench as 7 Ravens played over 14 minutes in the win.

The Ravens remain on the road Saturday, traveling to the Cook Center at MNU for a 4 p.m. game with the Pioneers.
