ST. LOUIS – (RV) Men's Lacrosse opened their season on Saturday with a neutral site game against (7) Madonna.
A 7-goal second quarter proved to be too much for the Ravens to overcome as they fell 15-8 to the Crusaders.
Neither team could do much offensively in the first quarter combining for 15 shots and 8 saves in goal. They also combined for 23 turnovers as the Crusaders led 2-0.
Brayden Hope scored the Ravens first goal of the game, and the second quarter, on an assist from Joey Calabria before the Crusaders scored 7 unanswered to pull ahead 9-1 at the half.
The Ravens held a 7-6 advantage over the Crusaders in goals over the third and fourth quarter but couldn't overcome the offensive outburst by Madonna in the second quarter.
Joey Calabria led the Ravens with 4 goals while Mac Postel Jr. joined Hope with 2 goals. Jordan Rodriguez joined Postel Jr. with 2 assists while Calabria added 1.
CJ Besuzzi finished with 9 saves. Max Thomason went 16 of 22 on face-offs while the Ravens won 17 of 23 on the game. Aiden Nicholson recorded 11 ground balls as the team finished with 61.
Benedictine hosts Midland University on Friday at 7 p.m. on Legacy Field as part of a doubleheader with the Women's Lacrosse team.
