OTTAWA – Benedictine Women's Lacrosse took to the road on Monday night, taking on Ottawa University for the second time this season.
The No. 9-ranked Ravens earned a comeback win over the home-standing Braves as they earned an 18-12 win.
The Braves scored 4 unanswered goals to end the first quarter to take a 5-3 lead over the Ravens. They added a 3 more goals in the second quarter to Benedictine's 2 goals to lead 8-5 at the halftime break.
The scoring opened up in the third quarter as the teams combined for 13 goals off 17 shots. Trailing 12-9 midway through the quarter, the Ravens scored a total of 9 unanswered goals to earn the win. Five of those goals came to end the third quarter as Chanterra Allen tied the game at 12-12 with 3:35 remaining in the quarter off an assist from Kiera Russell. Allen scored with just over 90 seconds remaining into the quarter to give the Ravens their first lead since 7:24 remaining in the first quarter.
Allen led the Ravens in scoring with 8 goals, followed by Margaux Gelbach with 4. Russell scored 3, followed by Hildenbrand with 2 and Haylee Strough with 1. Russell, Hildenbrand, Allen and Gelbach finished with 2 assists each while Christen Michaelides finished with 1.
Defensively, the Ravens finished with 12 caused turnovers as the Braves finished with 18. Allen led the way with 5, followed by Strough with 3. Gianna Stalletti and Molly Owen split the game in goal with Stalletti playing the first half with 4 saves. Owen earned the win, recording 8 saves in the second half.
Russell finished with 16 draw controls while adding 2 caused turnovers as the Ravens finished with an 18-15 advantage.
Benedictine returns to Heart play at 1 p.m. Saturday, hosting Culver-Stockton College on Legacy Field.
