Ravens Softball swept a home Saturday doubleheader against the College of Saint Mary Flames.
The Ravens rode strong pitching in the sweep, winning Game 1, 1-0, and taking Game 2, 4-2.
Game 1
The Ravens battled to a win in a pitching dual to open up Saturday's doubleheader. Bailey Selvage took the circle and struck out 8 batters in a complete-game shutout. Keeping the Flames off the scoreboard was important, as the Ravens could scratch across just 1 run.
That run came in the bottom of the 6th inning. Kassidy James led off the inning with a single up the middle and advanced to third on a bunt by Abby Pressgrove.
Chloe Strickland brought in James with a well-placed sacrifice bunt in what turned out to be the winning run.
The Ravens improved to 12-3 on the season and Selvage improved her perfect record to 7-0.
Game 2
The Ravens got another good outing from their starting pitcher in Saturday's finale. Lacey Foster pitched all 7 innings and gave up just 2 runs. Foster let her defense go to work for her, striking out just one Flames batter and scattering 8 hits across 7 innings, improving to 2-0 on the season.
The Ravens opened the scoring in the second inning. Kera Willoughby singled to left and moved to second on Rihannon Martin's single. Ryan Cooper reached on a bunt and Willoughby scored on a Flames error. Another Saint Mary error allowed Martin to score to put the Ravens up 2-0.
After the Flames scored their first run of the game – and the afternoon – in the top of the fifth, the Ravens answered in the bottom half of the frame. Kassidy James singled and then Baylee Knorr lined a shot over the left-field fence for the home run and a 4-1 Ravens lead.
The Flames added 1 run in the seventh, but Foster and the Ravens closed out the 4-2 win to move to 13-3 on the season.
The Ravens get right back at it with Noon, Sunday, March 3 doubleheader against Haskell.
