Baseball snaps losing streak Heart series split against Baker

BALDWIN CITY – Benedictine Baseball split their four-game series against Baker University on Thursday and Saturday.

Thursday's doubleheader saw the Ravens win the season opener 1-0 in 9 innings before Baker earned a 3-1 win in game 2. Saturday, the Ravens dropped a shootout to the Wildcats in game 3, 15-13, before take the series finale 11-0.

Game 1: Benedictine 1, Baker 0
Tyler Marchand drove in Jack Minnis with an RBI single in the top of the ninth to break a scoreless tie with the Wildcats.

Jackson Sarver closed out the game, giving up 1 hit in a scoreless bottom half to the ninth against the Wildcats. 

Ben DeLaForest earned the win, throwing 8 innings scattering 4 hits over his outing with 4 strikeouts.

Minnis and Brylan Haas each finished with 2 hits at the plate while Rhett Spell finished with a double.

Game 2: Baker 3, Benedictine 1
Two runs in the sixth inning allowed the Wildcats to take over the lead from Benedictine en route to the win.

Sarver suffered the loss, giving up the game-winning run over two-thirds of an inning in relief. Lance Bolles earned the start, throwing the first four and two-third innings, giving up a run off 5 hits with 2 strikeouts.

Ashton Neuman recorded a double while Minnis was credited with an RBI and recorded 2 hits.

Game 3: Baker 15, Benedictine 13
After Benedictine scored 2 runs to open the game, Baker scored 14 unanswered to take control of the game. Benedictine held Baker scoreless until the sixth which allowed the Ravens to make it a game, scoring 2 in the sixth and 5 in the seventh in the loss.

Sarver suffered the loss, earning the start and throwing two-thirds of an inning. Dominic Susanka threw the final 3 innings, limiting the Wildcats to just 1 run off 3 hits with 3 strikeouts that allowed Benedictine to battle back.

The two teams combined to send 9 pitchers to the hill in the 28-run, 28-hit game.

Neuman went 4 for 5 at the plate with 8 RBI and he finished with 3 home runs. Jack Harpole finished with 2 doubles while Haas added a third. Harpole was also credited with 2 RBI while Minnis and Nathan Olson were credited with an RBI each.

Game 4: Benedictine 11, Baker 0
The Ravens closed out the series with their second shutout as they earned the win in the series finale.

Nicholas Mozingo earned his first career win as a Raven on the hill. He threw the first five and one-third innings, giving up 4 hits with 3 strikeouts. 

Neuman, Marchand, and Skyler Specht all recorded a home run at the plate as Neuman and Specht finished with 3 RBI each. Neuman's home run allowed him to complete the home run cycle for the day as he connected on a grand slam, 3-run home run, 2-run home run, and solo home run over the Saturday doubleheader. 

Brice Martin added a double, Haas finished with 2 RBI while Minnis and Marchand added an RBI each. 

Benedictine returns home for the remainder of the regular season, starting with a four-game series on Saturday against Graceland University on Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium.
