Benedictine Baseball hosted the Missouri Western State University Griffons on Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium in the return of the Doug Minnis Charity Game.
The Griffons got the better of the Ravens, earning a 7-1 win as the two teams gathered to honor the memory of the former Griffon head coach, father of Benedictine President Stephen D. Minnis, and grandfather of Benedictine second baseman Jack Minnis.
Missouri Western scored 2 runs in the top of the first and then added 4 in the third and their final run in the fourth inning.
Benedictine's Matthew Gephardt earned the start on the hill. He gave up 2 runs off 4 hits before Harper Beattie took over to throw the third. Beattie gave up the 4 runs before Andrew Baier gave up the final run over his two innings of work.
Evan DeMint entered in relief of Baier and threw three innings, allowing just 1 hit with 3 strikeouts before Nelson Klein finished off the game.
Benedictine finished the game with 3 hits. Tyler Marchand recorded a double in the fifth. He was pinch-run for by Matthew Gabriel. Gabriel scored on a sac fly off the bat of Miles Holmquist for the Ravens only run of the afternoon.
The Ravens return to Heart play on Saturday and Sunday, traveling to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to take on Mount Mercy University in a four-game series.
