CRETE, Neb. – (RV) Benedictine Softball split a road doubleheader on Wednesday, run-ruling Doane 10-1 in the opener before falling to the Tigers 6-4 in the second game.
In the opener, the Ravens broke the game open with an 8-run third inning. After a pair of RBI singles from Bayle Knorr and Clare Heitz scored the first three runs, Same Bertoncino connected on a 3-run home run to break the game wide open. Kassidy James and Abby Pressgrove added a pair of RBI singles to score the final 2 runs of the inning for Benedictine.
Bailey Selvage earned the start inside the circle and threw the first 3 innings, allowing 1 run off 2 hits with 5 strikeouts before Lacey Foster finished off the game. She threw 2 hitless innings with 4 strikeouts.
In game two, the Ravens gave up just 3 earned runs out of the 6 scored by the Tigers.
Lily SignhDhillon threw the first 2 innings inside the circle, giving up 1 earned run off 4 hits before Foster finished the game, throwing 4 innings. Foster gave up 2 runs off 4 hits with 4 more strikeouts to suffer the loss.
Ryan Cooper finished game two with a solo home run while Natalie Sheffield and Heitz added doubles. Sheffield, Heitz, and Bertoncino joined Cooper with an RBI each.
The Ravens are scheduled to return home on Saturday for a Noon doubleheader with (RV) Friends University on Ravens Field. They were originally scheduled to travel to Ottawa on Friday for a doubleheader with the No. 23-ranked Braves but that doubleheader has been canceled.
