MARIETTA, Ga. – Benedictine Women's Lacrosse comeback effort fell just short on Wednesday night as the No. 9-ranked Ravens fell to No. 6 Life University.
The Eagles held the Ravens to just 4 goals in the first half as they used a 7-goal second quarter to break open the game at halftime. Benedictine held a 6-2 advantage in the second half, which included a fourth-quarter shutout as a last-second shot from Chanterra Allen missed allowing the Eagles to escape with a 10-9 win.
Allen scored the first goal of the game just over 2 minutes into the game to put Benedictine up early. After Life answered near the midpoint of the quarter, goals from Allen and Kiera Russel gave the Ravens a 3-1 advantage heading into the second quarter. Life scored 6 unanswered goals in the second quarter to pull ahead of Benedictine 7-3 before Elizabeth Pluta scored the Ravens only goal of the quarter with just under 5 minutes remaining.
Allen scored 3 of the Ravens 4 fourth-quarter goals, pulling Benedictine within 1 goal with two minutes remaining in the game.
Russell, Allen, and Pluta were the only goal scorers for the Ravens, led by Allen with a game-high 6 while Russell added 2 to the remaining goal from Pluta. Margaux Gelbach was credited the Ravens lone assist.
Molly Owen earned the start in goal for the Ravens, recording 15 saves in the loss, three of which came in the fourth quarter. Gelbach, Pluta and Russell finished with 3 caused turnovers each as the Ravens finished with 19 caused turnovers on the Eagles 24 total turnovers.
Russell finished with 4 draw controls as the Ravens finished with a total of 10 while Pluta led the team with 5 ground balls.
Benedictine wraps up their southern road trip on Friday, taking on No. 2 Reinhardt (Ga.) in Waleska, Ga.
