Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball splits four-game series with Clarke

Benedictine Baseball hosted their penultimate series of the season on Saturday and Sunday, hosting a four-game Heart series with Clarke University at Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium.

Saturday, the Ravens earned a win in the series opener, 11-5, before dropping a 25-12 shootout in game two. The Pride took the series lead with a 15-12 win to open Sunday before the Ravens evened the series with a 10-3 win in the series finale.

Game 1: Benedictine 11, Clarke 5
After giving up 4 runs in the first and a fifth run in the fourth, the Ravens trailed 5-0 to Clarke. They scored 11 unanswered to earn the win to open the series.

Jackson Sarver earned the win in relief. He threw the final two innings, holding the Pride scoreless off 3 hits in relief of Ben DeLaForest and Matthew Gephardt.

Dominic Ferrari got the rally started with a 2-run home run in the fourth, followed by a solo home run from Jaden Zimmerman. Ashton Neuman homered in the fifth before back-to-back doubles from Zimmerman and Tyler Marchand tied the game at 5-5 and gave the Ravens a 7-5 lead. Neuman broke the game open with a 3-run home run before Jack Harpole's solo home run capped off the comeback all in the sixth.

Game 2: Clarke 25, Benedictine 12
In a back-and-forth game, the Pride busted open the second game on Saturday with 12 unanswered over the sixth and seventh innings.

Carson Kasl suffered the loss, throwing an inning and one-third as he was the fifth pitcher to make the trip to the mound in the loss as the Ravens used 8 total pitchers in the loss.

Benedictine finished with 10 hits in the loss, six of which were for extra bases. Brice Martin hit a pair of doubles while Brylan Haas added a double and triple. Ferrari added his second home run of the series while Rhett Spell added another.

Game 3: Clarke 15, Benedictine 12
Benedictine scored 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh while stranding one as the Pride induced a game-ending double play in the second high-scoring game of the series.

A 9-run fifth inning from the Pride proved to be the difference in the game. DeLaForest suffered the loss in relief. He gave up 6 runs over two-thirds of an inning after Ben Bowman limited the Pride to 3 runs off 6 hits over the first four innings.

Neuman led the Ravens at the plate going 3 for 4 with a double and home run. Haas finished with a double while Ferrari added his third home run of the series.

Game 4: Benedictine 10, Clarke 3
Having used 13 pitchers over the first three games of the series, Benedictine needed a strong outing on the hill to finish off the series.

Nicholas Mozingo threw six innings, giving up 3 runs off 8 hits to earn the win for the Ravens.

Haas finished the game at the plate going 3 for 4 with a double and RBI. He was one of 6 players to record at least 2 hits in the win. Skyler Specht added a double and home run while Miles Holmquist added another double.

The Ravens close out the regular season back on Laughlin Field at Olsen Stadium on April 20-21 as they host a four-game series with No. 6 Central Methodist. Saturday's doubleheader will start at 1 p.m., followed by the Senior Day doubleheader at Noon on Sunday.
