Ravens Softball's season comes to an end in NAIA Opening Round

WILLIAMSBURG, KY. – Ravens Softball had their season come to an end Wednesday afternoon.

The Ravens lost to the Coastal Georgia Mariners, 4-1, in an elimination game in the NAIA Opening Round hosted by University of the Cumberlands.

The Mariners plated 2 runs in the top of the first and another in the third to put the Ravens in a 3-0 hole. Chloe Strickland led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a single and moved to second on a Natalie Sheffield ground out. The only Ravens run of the game came when Rhiannon Martin doubled home Strickland to cut the Mariners lead to 3-1.

After Coastal Georgia added an insurance run in the top of the seventh, Kassidy James singled to open the bottom of the frame, but she was stranded at first as the game came to an end.

The Ravens accumulated 9 hits in the contest but weren't able to string enough together to put up a big inning. James had a game-high 3 hits Wednesday, while Martin, Strickland, Sheffield, Megan Forsman, Clare Heitz, and Baylee Knorr each recorded one hit.

Bailey Selvage pitched a complete game for the Ravens, allowing 3 earned runs and 9 hits.

The 2024 season was the most successful in Ravens history as the team set a new single-season record with 40 wins. It was also the first time Ravens Softball qualified for the NAIA Tournament and the Ravens picked up their first NAIA Tournament win. Selvage also set Ravens single-season records with 21 wins and 184 strikeouts.

The Ravens close out the season with a record of 40-16.
