Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Defense guides Men's Soccer to home win

Men's Soccer used another strong defensive effort in Wednesday night's win.

The (24) Ravens made a first-half goal stick, defeating the Park University Pirates 1-0.

The Ravens opened the scoring in the 20th minute when Kody Argaez was fouled inside the 18-yard box. Argaez then stepped to the spot to take the PK, beating the Park keeper to put the Ravens up 1-0. It was the team-leading fourth goal of the season for Argaez.

There were other scoring opportunities for both sides in the opening half. The Ravens had three corner kicks and three free kicks just outside the 18-yard box, but were unable to add to the Argaez goal.

The Pirates also had opportunities to score, including three corner kicks of their own. They also forced Ravens keeper Noah Reuscher to make 3 saves. Regardless, the Ravens took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

The Ravens maintained their single-goal advantage deep into the second half as the Pirates amped their offensive pressure. Despite holding a significant advantage in possession in the second half, the Pirates weren't able to put a shot on goal in the final 45 minutes. The Ravens defense fought off every advance by the visitors, cashing in on the first half goal by Argaez. Through eight matches, the Ravens have conceded just 4 goals.

Both teams were physical for the full 90 minutes as the Ravens were whistled for 16 fouls and the Pirates were called for 14 fouls.

The Ravens (7-1, 2-0 Heart) will take the road for their next game, a 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 match at Mount Mercy University.
