Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball falls in double-overtime thriller

Men's Basketball dropped a heartbreaker at home Wednesday night.

The Ravens lost to the Central Methodist University Eagles, 92-88, in double overtime. The teams also went to overtime in their first matchup of the season, a Ravens win on Nov. 20.

It was the Eagles coming out on top on Wednesday, though, outscoring the Ravens 8-4 in the second overtime to secure the win.

The Ravens had to overcome a 3-point deficit in the first overtime as Deaglan Sullivan's free throws cut the CMU lead to 1 point, then after an Eagles free throw, Preston Reynolds made a bucket with 32 seconds left to tie the game at 84-84. CMU missed a chance on their offensive end and then Brycen LaRue's running jumper at the buzzer missed just short.

A CMU run put the visitors in front by 7 points midway through the second half, but the Ravens had an answer. A LaRue basket tied the game at 60-60 with just under 7 minutes to play, then another bucket by LaRue put the Ravens up by 5 points with less than a minute to play. However, the Eagles took advantage of missed free throws – the Ravens were 12-of-22 from the line in the game – and tied up the contest to send it to overtime, eventually earning the win.

LaRue finished with 24 points to lead the Ravens scorers. Sullivan scored 21, Jack Vander Woude finished with 18, and Reynolds notched a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Gino Corridori also recorded a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 boards.

The Ravens earned an 8-point halftime lead thanks to hot shooting, knocking down 8 of their first 9 shots and finishing the first half shooting 53% from the field. The Ravens finished the game shooting 43% from the field.

The Ravens (6-12, 5-9 Heart) will get back at after it at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 at home against MidAmerica Nazarene University.
