LAMONI, Iowa – Graceland University connected on 70 percent from the floor in the first half on Wednesday night against Benedictine Men's Basketball.
The Yellowjackets finished the game at 52.2 percent en route to a 76-64 win over the Ravens.
Jack Vander Woude scored 6 of the first 8 points of the night off a 3-pointer and three free throws that tied the game at 8 points inside the first 4 minutes of the game. Graceland went on a 14-2 run to push their lead into double figures. Benedictine countered with a 10-0 run to pull back within 4 points before Graceland closed out the half to take a 10-point lead into halftime.
Layups from Deaglan Sullivan and Gino Corridori combined with a 3-pointer from Preston Reynolds cut Benedictine's halftime deficit down to 4 points inside the first four minutes of the second half. Graceland scored 7 straight to extend their lead back to double figures before Benedictine mounted one last run.
Brycen LaRue scored 8 straight points for the Ravens to pull Benedictine back within 9 points with just under 6 minutes remaining in the game, but the Yellowjackets were able to limit Benedictine's offensive chances down the stretch to earn the 12-point win.
LaRue finished with 13 points to lead the Ravens in scoring Vander Woude finished with 12 while Reynolds added 11.
Benedictine remains on the road for their next two games, traveling to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Saturday for a 2 p.m. game with Mount Mercy University before traveling to Des Moines, Iowa, on Monday for a 6 p.m. game with Grand View University.
