Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball drops Baker for Heart win

Women's Basketball defended its home court Wednesday night.

The (RV) Ravens topped the Baker University Wildcats, 75-61, responding each time Baker made a run.

A big first quarter gave the Ravens a 10-point lead after 10 minutes of action. The Ravens shot a blistering-hot 62.5% from the field in the first period as they built a 25-15 lead.

The Ravens pushed their lead to as many as 15 points early in the second quarter but a 7-point Wildcats run cut the lead to 31-23. The Ravens answered with their own 7-point run and carried a 38-27 lead into halftime.

After the Wildcats again cut the Ravens lead to single digits, the Ravens closed out the third quarter with an 8-0 run to take a 57-40 lead into the final 10 minutes.

Still, the visitors wouldn't stop making a push. The Wildcats fought back in the final period and cut the Ravens lead to 64-55 with just under 4 minutes left to play. However, just as they'd done all night, the Ravens had an answer – this time in the fashion of a Kennedy Nicholson 3-pointer and a bucket inside by Jennifer Jacobs. The Ravens maintained their double-digit advantage the rest of the game, ultimately winning by 14 points.

Jennifer Jacobs led the Ravens with 15 points and had 12 rebounds to earn a double-double. Nicholson scored 11 and had 6 assists and 3 steals, Josie Weishaar had 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists, and Riley Bruggeman had 13 points and 6 boards. The Ravens outrebounded the Wildcats 47-24, but had 19 turnovers in the game.

Next up for the Ravens (12-2, 9-1 Heart) will be a tough stretch as they have three games in six days. The first will be a Monday, Jan. 13 road game at Culver-Stockton College.
