Volleyball fell in straight sets to the William Woods University Owls at home Saturday afternoon.
The Ravens lost 3-0, falling behind too much to battle back in the first two sets.
The Owls took a 1-0 lead in the match thanks to a 25-21 first-set win. The Ravens struggled to find a rhythm on their attack for most of the first set, falling behind 22-15, but made a push late. The Ravens went on a 6-2 run to close the gap and force a William Woods timeout, but the Owls closed out the first set with a 4-point win.
Unfortunately for the Ravens, the second set was too much like the first as the Owls took a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-18 win in the second set.
William Woods jumped out to a 19-7 lead to take control in the set before the Ravens started battling back. The home team went on a 9-3 run to close the gap to 22-16, but the Owls finished the set off to take a strong advantage in the match.
The Ravens played better in the third set, sticking with the Owls for the entirety of the set, but William Woods earned a 25-23 win to sweep the match.
Barbara Terra had a team-high 9 kills, followed by
Rayleen Gladden and
Bridget O'Sullivan with 6,
JoJo Vander Woude with 5, and
Lucy Drexel with 4 kills.
Wren VanCleave had 29 assists.
Lainee Mustain and
Cate Milroy both had 12 digs as VanCleave added 11 digs, and Mustain also had 2 service aces.
The Ravens (11-13, 7-8 Heart) will try to snap a four-match losing streak at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28 at Baker University.
