Women's Basketball won its conference opener at home Saturday evening.
The Ravens defeated the William Penn University Statesmen, 70-49.
Holding a 7-point lead after one half of play, the Ravens continued to pressure the Statesmen to build a 12-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
That's when the depth of the Ravens was too much for Penn to overcome as the Ravens outscored the visitors 18-9 in the final period to cruise to the win.
Riley Bruggeman scored a game-high 20 points while also adding 9 rebounds and 4 assists. No other Ravens player hit double-digits in scoring, but nine players chipped in points.
Kyla Fitzgerald had 9 points, 7 boards and 3 assists,
Makayla Baughman had 8 points, and
Nicole Storck,
Jaylee Christian,
Diana Mozer and
Addie Kane each scored 6 points. The Ravens bench outscored WPU's reserves 25-7.
The Ravens outrebounded Penn 46-30 and had 14 assists on 21 field goals.
The Ravens faced a 3-point deficit after 6 minutes of action, but a 14-1 run that extended from the end of the first quarter into the second quarter put the home team on top 21-11.
The 3-point shot was clicking for the Ravens in the first half as they connected on 5-of-11 attempts from deep. Rebounding was also a positive in the first half as the Ravens outrebounded the Statesmen 24-16 with 10 offensive rebounds that led to 8 second-chance points. That helped the Ravens take a 31-24 lead into halftime. From there, the Ravens over-powered Penn for the win.
The Ravens (4-2, 1-0 Heart) will play (12) MidAmerica Nazarene University at 5:30 Wednesday, Nov. 19 at home for their next contest.
