Women's Soccer won a thrilling match in the quarterfinals of the Heart of America Conference Tournament on Wednesday.
The No. 4 seed Ravens defeated the No. 5 seed Park University Pirates, 1-0, thanks to a second-half goal from
Mollie Finley.
The Ravens broke the scoreless tie with just under 24 minutes to play in the match.
Rowan Yows sent a ball into the box from the left side that deflected off a Park defender.
Mollie Finley's run into the box was perfect as she was there to capitalize on the cross, tapping it in for a goal and the Ravens lead.
The Pirates tried to find an equalizer but the Ravens defense closed out the final 24 minutes with the same discipline they showcased all game, keeping Park off the board. The Pirates did come close, particularly on a couple free kicks that glanced off the cross bar, but ultimately
Madison Smith saved the only Pirates shot on goal.
The first half was a scoreless battle that saw both teams create scoring chances. The Ravens nearly had a goal on a corner kick, but the referee determined the ball did not cross the goal line prior to the Park keeper snagging it.
The Ravens made several runs forward, but wound up with just 2 shots in the opening half. The Pirates had 9 shots in the opening half but put none on goal.
Park finished the game with a 15-6 shot advantage, but the Ravens led 2-1 in shots on goal. The Ravens also created 3 corner kick opportunities in the match.
The Ravens advance to the semifinals where they will hit the road to take on No. 1 seed Central Methodist University on Saturday, Nov. 8. The time is yet to be determined; check
