KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After posting an overall record of 12-4-2 with a fourth-place finish in the Heart of America Athletic Conference, the Benedictine Women's Soccer team earned five spots on the annual All-Heart Women's Soccer Team on Wednesday.
Payton Vogelbacher was named a first-team forward. Eva Andrews was named a second-team defender and Christine Znidarsic was named a second-team midfielder. Reagyn Messenger was named a third-team defender and Rowan Yows was named a third-team midfielder.
Benedictine went 8-3-2 en route to their fourth-place finish in the Heart standings and opens up the Heart Conference Championships tonight with a Quarterfinal at 7 p.m with fifth-seeded Park University.
Headed into the postseason, Vogelbacher ranks third in the Heart in scoring with 14 goals. She also ranks third in assists (7) and points (35).
Andrews and Messenger were part of a back line that limited opponents to just 61 shots on goal through 18 matches this season. They helped lead the defense to a 0.83 goals against average while earning 10 shutouts.
Znidarsic was second on the Ravens with 20 points (7 goals, 6 assists) while Yows was third with 16 (5 goals, 6 assists).
Wednesday night's winner advances to the Semifinals on Saturday against the winner of the 1-8 pairing between No. 13 Central Methodist and Mount Mercy.
