Women's Basketball ran into a buzzsaw Saturday evening.
The Ravens lost to the No. 2 Dordt Defenders, 82-44, at home in Atchison. The Defenders, back-to-back defending national champions, used plenty of defensive pressure to disrupt the Ravens attack.
The Ravens held a 1-point lead late in the first quarter, but the Defenders got a basket before the buzzer to take a 1-point lead after 10 minutes of action. That started a 16-2 Dordt run that saw the Defenders turn a 1-point lead into a 20-point lead by the time the teams entered halftime.
The Ravens struggled against the Dordt defensive pressure in the second quarter, turning the ball over 11 times in 10 minutes. The Defenders also outshot the Ravens 45.5% to 25% in the opening half.
The third quarter was too much like the second as Dordt pushed their lead to 39 points. The Ravens outscored the Defenders 16-15 in the final period, but 31 turnovers in the game were too much to overcome against the defending champions.
Oen Deters scored a team-high 11 points for the Ravens and added 3 steals.
Kyla Fitzgerald made two of the Ravens three 3-pointers in the game, finishing with 8 points.
Nicole Storck added 5 points and 11 rebounds.
The Ravens (9-5) will have a break before returning to conference play when they travel to William Woods for a Saturday, Jan. 3 contest.
