Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball outlasts Mount Mercy

Women's Basketball picked up a home win Saturday afternoon.

The Ravens defeated the Mount Mercy University Mustangs, 74-64, to improve to 4-1 in conference play.

The Ravens took control of the game in the second half thanks to defense and getting inside the paint. Diana Mozer's 3-pointer late in the third quarter was the first of the game for the Ravens after they missed their first 19 attempts. That helped the Ravens take a 5-point lead into the fourth quarter.

The Ravens continued to get inside in the fourth quarter, finishing the game with 36 points in the paint. They also forced the Mustangs into 22 fouls, with the Ravens shooting 24-of-34 from the free throw line.

Defensively, the Ravens hounded the Mustangs and forced 25 turnovers. The Ravens also outrebounded Mount Mercy 23-13 in the second half to limit second-chance points for the visitors.

Riley Bruggeman scored 20 to lead the Ravens, also grabbing 8 rebounds and nabbing 6 steals. Oen Deters had 13 points, 5 assists and 4 steals, and Hattie Gros had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while also adding 3 steals. Nicole Storck scored 7, had 7 boards and recorded 5 steals.

The Ravens held a 20-11 after one period of action, but struggled on the offensive end. The Mustangs went on a 12-0 run in the second quarter to take a brief, 26-25 lead, but the teams entered halftime with the score tied at 31-31. The Ravens answered the call in the second half, outscoring the Mustangs by 5 points in each of the third and fourth quarters.

The Ravens (7-3, 4-1 Heart) will hit the road for a non-conference game Monday, Dec. 8 at the University of St. Mary.
