LEAVENWORTH – No. 18 Benedictine Softball continued its road non-conference schedule on Tuesday with a sweep over the Spires of the University of St. Mary.
The Ravens earned a 4-1 win in the opener and then followed that up with an 8-1 win to move their overall record on the year to 6-4.
In the opener, the Ravens rallied to score 3 unanswered over the sixth and seventh innings to earn the win. Kaelyn Fisher singled in the go-ahead run in the sixth. Riley Kennedy scored on a fielder's choice for the first run in the seventh before Megan Forsman singled in Ryan Cooper to give the Ravens a 3-run advantage.
Bailey Selvage threw a complete game inside the circle for the Ravens. She gave up 1 run while scattering 4 hits over 7 innings with 8 strikeouts.
Cooper and Amanda Waymire were credited with the two remaining RBI in game one.
In the second game, the Ravens used a 4-run first inning to jump out and pushed that lead to 7-0 before the Spires scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth.
Lily SinghDhillon and Lacey Foster combined for the Ravens inside the circle. Foster earned the win, throwing the final 5 and a third innings while scattering 1 run off 4 hits with 4 strikeouts.
At the plate, Waymire, Alma Garcia, Megan White, and Kennedy all recorded a double. Chloe Strickland and Kennedy finished with 2 RBI each while Cooper and Garcia each recorded an RBI.
The Ravens remain on the road this weekend, heading to the Mid-America Sports Complex in Shawnee, Kan., for a 4-game invitational appearance. They will play Concordia (Neb.) and Kansas Wesleyan on Saturday and then Briar Cliff and Waldorf on Sunday.
