Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball falls in double overtime to Park

Men's Basketball lost a heartbreaker at home Wednesday night.

The Ravens lost, 90-88, to the Park University Pirates in double overtime.

Tied at 84-84 entering the second overtime, the teams remained level with 2 seconds left on the clock. The Pirates were able to score on an inbounds play under their goal with 1.2 seconds to play, then the Ravens final chance went in the basket but unfortunately came after the final buzzer had sounded.

In a sign of things to come, the Ravens and Pirates were knotted up at 30-30 entering halftime. The Ravens shot 38.7% from the field in the opening half, scoring 16 points in the paint. The Pirates countered with 42.3% shooting, including 4-of-9 from 3-point range, to erase an early Ravens 12-point lead.

After the teams entered halftime tied up, the second half remained tight. The Ravens held a 5-point lead late in the game, but the Pirates scored a bucket and then capitalized on a missed Ravens free throw, knocking down a 3-pointer to tie the game with 2.9 seconds left in the second half. A late Ravens attempt was unsuccessful, and the teams went into overtime.

In the first overtime, the Ravens built an 81-74 lead with just over a minute to play, but the Pirates battled back once again. After Ezrah Vaigafa made 1-of-2 free throws with 5 seconds to play, the Pirates hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into a second overtime period.

The teams fought back-and-forth in the second overtime with the Pirates eventually coming out on top.

Jack Vander Woude led the Ravens with 23 points and had 7 rebounds. Brycen LaRue scored 21 points and dished out 7 assists, and Haggan Hilgendorf added 18 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks.

The Ravens (7-16, 6-13 Heart) will take on Culver-Stockton College at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8 at home.
