GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Benedictine Men's Lacrosse launched a fourth-quarter comeback that came up short on Tuesday against (8) Aquinas College as the Ravens started their Spring Break road trip.
After playing to a 3-3 tie at the half, the Saints held the Ravens scoreless in the third quarter en route to the 9-6 win.
Harry Milligan scored Benedictine's first goal on an assist from Mason Eberle late in the first quarter to tie the game before the Saints answered to take a 2-1 lead into the second quarter.
The Ravens scored two straight to open the second quarter to grab a 3-2 lead off a goal from Jonah Salem with an assist to Milligan. The Saints answered to send the game into halftime tied at 3-3.
After Mac Postel Jr. scored for the Ravens to open the fourth quarter off an assist from Milligan, the Saints rattled off three straight to pull ahead of the Ravens. Postel Jr. assisted on the Ravens final two goals scored by Milligan and Salem but it was too late for the comeback to be completed.
The Ravens finished the game with an 81.6 clear percentage as they finished 31 of 38.
Half of Benedictine's 24 shots were on goal as they finished with 12 shots on goal. Salem and Milligan finished with 2 goals each, followed by Postel and Joey Calabria with 1 goal each. Postel Jr. and Milligan finished with 2 assists each while Eberle added 1.
The Ravens finished with 17 caused turnovers, led by Charley McGlinn with 4. Aiden Nicholson and Jack Northrup added 3 each to round out the Ravens defensive effort.
CJ Besuzzi went the distance for the Ravens in goal, finishing with 20 saves – setting a new career high at Benedictine.
The next stop on the Ravens road trip, Adrian, Mich., and a 6 p.m. game Thursday against Siena Heights.
