Women's Lacrosse picked up a big-time win at home Monday afternoon.
The No. 5-ranked Ravens defeated No. 2 University of the Cumberlands Patriots, 19-10.
The game didn't start the way the Ravens hoped as the Patriots won the opening draw and then scored just 13 seconds later. However, the Ravens dominated draw controls the remainder of the first half, an 11-2 advantage, and made it count on the scoreboard.
The Ravens scored 5 in the first quarter and then outscored Cumberlands 6-0 in the second quarter to take an 11-1 lead into the halftime break. After the quick Patriots goal in the opening seconds, Molly Owen and the Ravens defense didn't allow another goal the remainder of the half.
That 10-goal cushion proved to be important as the Patriots were able to find better offensive rhythm in the second half and outscored the Ravens 9-8. Still, the Ravens closed out the 9-goal win.
Chanterra Allen reached a career milestone in the third quarter as her 6th goal of the game was her 200th career goal for the Ravens. She finished with a game-high 7 goals.
Lorelei Siegel scored 5 goals, Kiera Russell added 4 goals, and Kaylen Moore scored 2 goals and had 3 assists. The combination of Moore and Mackenna Hill helped the Ravens secure a 21-10 advantage in draw controls.
Owen was strong in goal for the Ravens, making 10 saves.
The win closes out the non-conference portion of the Ravens regular season schedule as they will return to Heart of America play at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 22 at home against Missouri Valley College.
