Benedictine Baseball earned its first win in Heart play over the weekend against Grand View University.
The Ravens opened the four-game series with a 6-3 win over the Vikings before falling in game 2, 2-0. Sunday, the Vikings opened up the final day of play with an 11-2 win before holding off Benedictine 13-9 in the series finale.
Benedictine finished the series with 10 extra-base hits (7 doubles, 1 triple, and 2 home runs) with 17 RBI. Jackson Stone recorded his first career home run as a Raven while the home run for Brice Martin was a grand slam in the series opener that proved to be the difference in the game.
Martin's home run came in the second inning in support of Lance Bolles on the hill for the Ravens. Bolles allowed 3 runs off 9 hits over 7 innings as he earned the win.
Carson Hintz and Dominic Ferrari added a double each at the plate, while Hintz and Jackson Stone joined Martin with an RBI each.
In game two, the Ravens suffered a 5-hit shutout as they couldn't break through against two pitchers on the hill for the Vikings.
Scott Matzke earned the start for the Ravens. He threw 4.1 innings, giving up 2 runs off 5 hits before Ryan Jackson finished off the game, holding the Vikings to just 1 hit over 2.2 innings with 3 strikeouts.
Ferrari continued a strong series at the plate, recording 2 doubles while Martin added a double of his own.
Sunday started with 7 unanswered for the Vikings as they jumped out to a big lead over the Ravens in game three.
Avery Baber suffered the loss, throwing the first 4 innings and giving up 8 runs off 8 hits. Cole Voss, Aiden Leonard, and Nick Bauer closed out the game on the hill. Leonard and Bauer held the Vikings scoreless over the final 2 innings.
Stone hit a 2-run home run in the fifth inning while Hintz added a double at the plate.
In the series finale, the Ravens opened up with a 4-run first before the Vikings answered with a 5-run third. The Ravens answered a 2-run top of the sixth with a 4-run bottom half of the inning to take a 9-7 lead into the seventh inning.
Grand View blew the game open with a 6-run seventh to earn the win.
Nic Mozingo earned the start, throwing the first 5 innings in a no-decision. Nolan Haas and Ryan Jackson combined to throw the next 2 innings to give the Ravens a chance to comeback at the plate. Charlie Elsten, Evan DeMint, and Zach Wilcox threw in the seventh inning with DeMint suffering the loss as he gave up 3 runs off 2 hits.
Six Ravens finished the game with 2 hits at the plate. Hintz went 2 for 4 with a triple and 3 RBI. Ferrari added a double and 2 RBI while JK Sparks added 2 RBI off a 2 for 4 effort. Martin and Benson Smith finished with an RBI each as Stone joined Martin, Cooper Milroy and Sparks with a pair of singles.
After playing 16 straight at home, the Ravens hit the road this coming weekend to open up an 8-game road swing with a 4-game series in Lamoni, Iowa, against Graceland University. They will follow that with a 4-game series in Parkville, Mo., on March 22-23 against Park University before returning home to Olsen Stadium on March 26 for 5 straight home games.
