Game Recap: Softball |

Softball picks up first home sweep

Ravens Softball capped off its opening homestand with a sweep of the Bethany College Swedes Sunday afternoon.

The (20) Ravens won Game 1, 5-2, before taking the second game, 8-0.

Game 1

The Ravens used timely hitting and strong pitching to pick up a win in the Sunday's opener.

Bailey Selvage was perfect through four innings of work. Lacey Foster came on in relief, pitching 2.2 innings and giving up 2 runs.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the top of the seventh, Selvage returned to the circle and recorded the final out as the Ravens secured a 5-2 win.

Selvage (5-3) finished with 4.1 innings pitched, 5 strikeouts and no runners allowed.

The first Ravens runs came in the second inning. Alena Velilla homered with Abby Reynolds on base – who was running for Kaelyn Fisher – to put the Ravens up 2-0.

Chloe Strickland singled and Rhiannon Martin walked to get things started in the third inning. Strickland scored on a double by Amanda Waymire and Fisher scored Martin on a sacrifice fly.

The Ravens fifth tally came in the fourth inning when Martin singled home Strickland.

Game 2

Another strong outing from Lily SinghDhillon (5-1) paved the way for the Ravens in the second game. SinghDhillon pitched 4.2 innings, striking out 6 batters and allowing just 1 hit. Selvage came on for the final out of the fifth inning, inducing a fly out with the bases loaded to keep the Swedes off the board.

Martin got the Ravens offense going with a solo homer in the bottom of the first. The long ball struck again in the second inning when Cambell Riordan launched a pinch-hit, 3-run home run to give the Ravens a 4-0 lead.

The Ravens closed things out in the bottom of the fifth inning as Strickland singled home Ryan Cooper and Waymire brought home Angelina Postel with a sacrifice fly.

Martin scored on a single by Fisher. Renay Myers – running for Fisher – scored the game-ending run on a passed ball as the Ravens earned a run-rule, 8-0 win in five innings.

The Ravens (13-7) take the road for a battle of top-20 teams when they travel to No. 17 Missouri Baptist University Tuesday, March 11.
