Men's Lacrosse closes out regular-season with record-breaking scoring effort against Midland

FREMONT, Neb. – Benedictine Men's Lacrosse closed out the regular season on Wednesday with a record-breaking scoring effort against Midland University.

The Ravens beat the Warriors 28-7, setting a new single-game scoring record for the program, passing the previous mark of 26 goals.

Benedictine led by 2 goals after the first quarter and then exploded for an 11-goal second quarter to take control of the game 15-3 at halftime.

Jonah Salem scored back-to-back goals for the Ravens to end the first quarter and start the second. After a Mason Eberle goal gave the Ravens a 6-2 lead, the Warriors scored with just over 10 minutes remaining before halftime. Benedictine went on a 12-0 run that stretched from 9:08 in the second to 8:35 in the third. When Midland broke their scoreless drought, Benedictine led by 15 before moving on for the 21-goal win.

Salem led the Ravens with 8 points (7 goals, 1 assist), followed by Eberle with 6 points (4 goals, 2 assists). Luke Reger and Keegan Lindsay scored 3 goals each. Calabria finished with 2 goals and was joined by Jacob Meyer, Brayden Hope, and Aidan Nicholson with 2 goals each. Hope led the Ravens with 7 goals. 

Benedictine finished with 13 caused turnovers, led by Jack Northrup with 3, followed by Gus Irving, Charley McGlinn, and Nicholson with 2 each.

CJ Besuzzi earned the win goal for the Ravens, playing the first half and recording 6 saves. Jerry Dalrymple and John Paul Evans combined for the second half, playing 15 minutes each and recording 1 save each.

Benedictine has earned a Heart Tournament Quarterfinal home game on Saturday as the No. 4 seed. The Ravens, Missouri Baptist University, and Columbia (Mo.) College finished the Heart regular season with the same record, and after the 3-way tiebreaker was used – goal differential in Heart play – Missouri Baptist earned the No. 3 seed, Benedictine the No. 4 seed, and Columbia the No. 5 seed.

The Ravens and the Cougars will take on each other at 4 p.m. Saturday on Legacy Field in a rematch of their regular-season meeting at the same location. Columbia beat Benedictine in overtime.
