Men's Lacrosse earns home conference win over William Woods

Benedictine Men's Lacrosse continued Heart play on Wednesday night, hosting conference newcomer William Woods University.

After giving up an opening goal to the Owls, the Ravens rattled off 7 straight en route to a 14-6 win.

Mason Eberle scored Benedictine's first goal on an assist from Mac Postel Jr. to tie the game with 12:30 left in the first quarter. Postel Jr. gave the ravens the lead on an assist from Joey Calabria with just under 6 minutes remaining in the quarter to give the Ravens the lead. Jonah Salem closed the quarter with a pair of goals on assists from Jacob Meyer and Gus Irving, and Benedictine was in control,l headed to the second quarter. 

The Ravens matched their first-quarter output in the second quarter to take an 8-2 lead into halftime.

William Woods came out of the halftime break and took control of the third quarter, holding Benedictine scoreless while scoring twice. The Owls added their third straight goal of the half inside the first 90 seconds of the fourth quarter before Postel Jr. and Calabria ended Benedictine's second-half scoreless drought.

Benedictine held William Woods to just one more goal before scoring 4 unanswered to end the game.

Postel Jr. led the Ravens with 9 points, scoring 4 goals with 5 assists. Salem was joined by Eberle, Dom Irving, and Harry Milligan with 2 goals each, while Meyer and Calabria finished with 1 goal each. Salam added 2 assists, followed by Gus Irving, Calabria, Meyer, Keegan Lindsay, and Brayden Hope with 1 each.

Defensively, John Paul Evans earned the start in goal and picked up his second win of the season. He went the distance, finishing with 12 saves. The Ravens finished with 17 caused turnovers as the Owls committed 30. Charlie McGlinn, Aidan Nicholson, and Jack Northrup finished with 3 caused turnovers each.

The Ravens return to the road on Saturday with a trip to Davenport, Iowa, for a game with St. Ambrose University at 2 p.m.
