OSKALOOSA, Iowa – The Benedictine Men's Lacrosse season came to an end on Wednesday in the Semifinals of the Heart Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament.
Top-seeded and No. 10-ranked William Penn University earned a 20-6 win over the No. 4-seeded Ravens to end Benedictine's season at 8-8.
After the first quarter, the two teams played to a 2-2 draw. Benedictine struck first on a goal from Malcom Castronova and then answered William Penn's first goal with a goal from Joey Calabria. Benedictine held a 2-1 lead until just over 5 minutes remained in the first quarter before William Penn tied the game.
William Penn opened the second quarter with a 6-0 scoring run to distance themselves from Benedictine and finished the quarter with an 8-2 scoring advantage. Jonah Salem scored 2 of his team-high 3 goals during the second quarter to send the Ravens into halftime trailing 10-4.
Benedictine scored a goal in the third and fourth quarters but couldn't break through offensively as the Statesmen held a 10-2 scoring advantage in the second half.
Dom Irving joined Calabria and Castronova with a single goal. Mac Postel Jr., Charley McGlinn, Brayden Hope, and Harry Milligan finished with 1 assist each.
Postel Jr. and McGlinn led the Ravens with 2 caused turnovers each, while Aidan Nicholson added 8 ground balls. CJ Besuzzi suffered the loss in goal. He played 54 minutes in goal and finished with 13 saves before John Paul Evans finished off the game.
