SAVANNAH, Ga. – Benedictine Women's Lacrosse is set to play for the program's second NAIA National Championship after a convincing semifinal win over SCAD-Savannah on Thursday.
The No. 2-seeded Ravens earned a 25-11 win over the No. 3-seeded Bees to punch their ticket to the NAIA Women's Lacrosse National Championship Game on Saturday.
For SCAD, the 25 goals were the most they have allowed in a single game in the NAIA era of their program, which started with Benedictine's first season in 2016.
Kaylen Moore scored the Ravens first goal of the game 2:33 into the first quarter. SCAD answered roughly 2 minutes later to tie the game before Moore scored her second goal of the game to give Benedictine a 2-1 just under 5 minutes into the quarter.
The Ravens never gave back the lead as Moore's second goal led to a run of four straight as Lorelei Siegel, Lile Chekas, and Chanterra Allen made it 5-1 Benedictine with 8 minutes left in the quarter.
Benedictine finished the quarter with a 9-4 lead and then added an 8-goal effort in the second quarter, which combined with holding SCAD to just 2 goals. Alexa Hildenbrand pushed the Ravens lead to 15-5 with 7:36 left before halftime off an assist from Moore to kick in the Running Clock Rule.
The Ravens led 17-6 at the half before adding 4 goals in the third and fourth quarters, while defensively limiting SCAD to just 5 goals in the second half.
Benedictine held a 25-13 advantage in draw controls. They recorded 15 in the first half, which allowed the program to break the single-season record previously held by Cumberlands (Ky.) at 428 that was set last season. The Ravens currently have 456 draw controls headed into Saturday's championship game.
Eight Ravens contributed to the final scoring total. Allen finished with 6 goals, followed by Moore with 5 and Siegel with 4. Chekas was joined by Hildenbrand, Kiera Russell, Mackenna Hill, and Emma Rushing with 2 goals each. Hildenbrand led the Ravens with 3 assists, followed by Allen and Chekas with 2 each. Moore, Russell, Siegel, and Margaux Gelbach added 1 assist each.
Moore recorded 16 of Benedictine's draw controls while Russell added 5. Defensively, the Ravens finished with 11 caused turnovers as Gelbach led the defense with 3 caused turnovers, followed by Moore and Russell with 2 each.
Molly Owen went the distance in goal, recording 9 saves.
Benedictine will take on Cumberlands in Saturday's Championship Game. The No. 4-seeded Patriots knocked off No. 1 seed Keiser (Fla.) 15-14 in the first Semifinal Game on Thursday. The game between the Ravens and Patriots will be a rematch of a game played on Legacy Field earlier this season. Benedictine hosted Cumberlands on March 17 and earned a 19-10 win. Cumberlands has won 9 of 10 since losing to Benedictine.
Saturday's Championship Game will be at 1 p.m. ET (12 p.m. CT) at Memorial Stadium in Savannah.
