CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Benedictine Softball dropped two games in the 2025 Heart Softball Championship Tournament while posting three wins over MNU, Park, and Mount Mercy University.
The Ravens battled back after dropping an extra-inning game to Baker in their opener to play their way to the Consolation Bracket Championship game. After beating MNU on Thursday, the Ravens earned a 5-3 win over Park to knock out the Pirates on Friday. They followed that win with a 3-1 over MMU on Saturday to advance to the Consolation Bracket Championship game, where Baker earned a 5-4 walk-off win to end the Ravens tournament run.
In the 5-3 win over the Pirates, Benedictine scored 5 unanswered runs over the first five innings of the game before the Pirates scored three runs in the sixth before falling short in their comeback effort.
Bailey Selvage earned the win. She allowed 3 runs off 5 hits with 9 strikeouts. Chloe Strickland, Riley Kennedy, and Ryan Cooper were all credited with an RBI as the Ravens scored their five runs off 3 hits.
In their third elimination game, the Ravens scored three unanswered over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to earn the win over the Mustangs.
Selvage picked up a complete-game win for the Ravens. After giving up a run in the top of the first, she held the Mustangs scoreless over the next six innings as she limited Mount Mercy to just 5 hits at the plate for the win.
The Ravens recorded four extra-base hits at the plate. Amanda Waymire hit a solo home run while Rhiannon Martin, Alma Garcia, and Cooper each added a double. Kaelyn Fisher was credited with the remaining RBI.
In the Consolation Bracket Championship Game, the Ravens scored 4 in the top of the fifth to take a 4-1 lead over Baker – as the two teams battled for the second time in the tournament and fourth time since April 26.
Lily SinghDhillon earned the start inside the circle. She threw 3.1 innings, giving up 1 run off 1 hit with 2 strikeouts before Selvage took over. Selvage suffered the loss, giving up 3 earned runs off 5 hits over the final 3.1 innings.
Waymire added her second home run of the tournament while Fisher added a double. The duo combined for 2 RBI each to account for all four of the Ravens runs.
Benedictine sits at 33-22 overall. The NAIA will announce the field for the 44th Annual Softball National Championship Tournament on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
