Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer finds late winner against Graceland

Women's Soccer pulled out a home win Saturday evening after making things harder on themselves than it needed to be.
The Ravens defeated the Graceland University Yellowjackets, 3-2, after the visitors erased a 2-0 Ravens lead.
With the score tied, 2-2, Rowan Yows sent a pass into the box to Payton Vogelbacher, who tangled with the Yellowjackets keeper and a defender with the ball just outside the goal line. Somehow, Vogelbacher was able to power the ball past the Yellowjackets and inside the post to give the Ravens a 3-2 lead and, ultimately, the win.
The Ravens opened the scoring in the 25th minute of the match. Ella Braunger passed to Christine Znidarsic who was able to score past the Yellowjackets keeper to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead.
With time ticking down in the opening half, the Ravens doubled their lead. Yows had control on the left side of the 6-yard box and sent a perfect pass across the face of the keeper. Mara Loughman was there to tap in the goal into an open net to make it 2-0 for the Ravens.
The Ravens lead was cut in half in unfortunate circumstances with 22 minutes left in the game. A Ravens defender attempted to play back towards keeper Madison Smith, but the pass back was off target and had too much pace, slipping into the net for an own goal to make it 2-1 in favor of the Ravens.
With just under 10 minutes to play, the Ravens fouled the Yellowjackets inside the 18-yard box and Graceland converted the penalty kick to level the score, 2-2.
The Ravens stayed tough, though, pulling out a game winner 5 minutes later.
The Ravens (5-2, 2-1 Heart) will return to action at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 at home against No. 13 MidAmerica Nazarene University.
