Benedictine Men's Soccer finished Wednesday night's match with No. 2 MNU with a 10-shot advantage, but in the end, the Pioneers used a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal to earn a 1-0 win over the Ravens on Legacy Field.
The lone goal of the match came during the 27th minute of play, and then the Pioneers held off multiple second-half offensive runs from the Ravens to preserve the win.
Through 8 matches, the Pioneers have yielded just just two goals as the win over the Ravens was the program's sixth shutout of the season.
Kody Argaez led the Ravens with 4 shots while Manuel Abello, Braden Yows and Nicholas Rowe added 2 each. Evan Frank, Abello, Andrews Felipe Angulo and Yows finished with 1 shot on goal each.
Hernan Berdiles finished the match with 4 saves over 90 minutes while MNU keeper Tobias Stril earned the shutout with 4 saves over 90 minutes.
Benedictine hits the road for their next two Heart matches, traveling to Parkville, Mo., on Saturday to face Park University before heading the Baldwin City for their midweek match on Sept. 24. They return home on Sept. 27 for a match with NAIA-ranked William Penn University for Family Weekend and Senior Night.
