Volleyball's win streak snapped by Baker

Volleyball had its three-match winning streak snapped Friday night at home.
The Ravens lost, 3-1, to the Baker University Wildcats.
The Ravens dropped the first set, 27-25, despite having two opportunities to win it. Trailing 23-22, the Ravens scored 2-straight points to get to set point, but were unable to put the Wildcats away when leading 24-23 and 25-24. It was Baker that wound up on top to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Neither the Ravens nor the Wildcats served well in the opening set as Baker had 7 service errors to the Ravens 5 service errors.
The Ravens fell behind 2-0 in the match after the Wildcats won the second set, 25-20. It was two separate runs that helped Baker when the set. The first was a 7-0 run early in the set that propelled past the Ravens on the scoreboard. Later, a 4-0 Wildcat run helped Baker with breathing room to close out the set and take a strong advantage in the match.
The Ravens stayed alive with a 25-23 win in the third set. Barbara Terra had 6 kills in the set and Lucy Drexel closed it out with a powerful kill.
The Ravens held an 18-14 lead but saw Baker battle back to tie it at 19-19. The Ravens remained poised, battling to a 2-point set win to force a fourth set.
Unfortunately, the Ravens couldn't complete the comeback as the Wildcats won the fourth set, 25-20, to earn a 3-1 win in the match.
The Ravens fell behind 7-3 early in the set but rallied to tie it at 11-11. A 4-0 Baker run later in the set put separation between the teams and the Wildcats rode that momentum to the win.
Terra led the Ravens with 16 kills, followed by Drexel's 11. Drexel also had a solo block and assisted on 3 more blocks. Wren VanCleave and Candace Lenzen each had 4 block assists, with VanCleave notching 35 assists. Kelly DeMeulenaere had 23 digs and 2 aces.
The Ravens (5-7, 2-2 Heart) will dip back out of conference play with a trip to Kansas Wesleyan Saturday, Sept. 20.
