Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball tops Vikings in Game of the Week

Women's Basketball picked up a key win at home Saturday afternoon in the Heart Game of the Week.

The Ravens knocked off the (RV) Grand View University Vikings, 66-48, in a matchup of two of the three teams tied atop the Heart of America Conference standings.

The Ravens got off to a great start in the opening half, taking a 22-13 lead after one quarter of action. The Ravens pushed their lead to 33-18 in the second quarter, but the Vikings answered with a 13-0 run to get back in the game.

An Oen Deters 3-pointer put a stop to the Grand View scoring run. Deters scored 10 points and Kyla Fitzgerald added 8 points to lead the Ravens offense in the first half. Both teams shot 6-of-14 from behind the 3-point line in the first 20 minutes.

The Ravens turned a 3-point halftime lead into an 11-point advantage after three quarters of play. The Ravens held the Vikings to just 7 points in the frame while doing a solid job of getting to the free throw line – and converting – on the offensive end. The Ravens were 6-8 from the line in third quarter.

More solid defense in the fourth quarter helped seal the win for the Ravens as they held the visitors to just 7 points once again. The Ravens outscored the Vikings 29-14 in the second half to earn an 18-point win holding the Vikings without a field goal in the final 7 minutes of the contest.

The Ravens finished the game shooting 38% from the field and held the Vikings to 29% shooting. Grand View was just 2-17 from 3-point range in the second half.

Riley Bruggeman finished with a team-high 14 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Fitzgerald had 13 points and Deters scored 12 to go along with 7 boards. Nicole Storck grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Ravens as they outrebounded the Vikings 51-34.

With the win, the Ravens (14-5 overall) improve to 10-1 in conference play and sit atop the Heart standings. The Vikings shift into third place at 9-2 and MidAmerica Nazarene University is second at 9-1.

The Ravens will have a pair of away games next week, starting with a 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21 game at Park University.
