SIOUX CENTER, Iowa – Coming off a home-opening win on Tuesday, Benedictine Men's Basketball ran into a hot-shooting Dordt University team on Friday night in their first road test of the season.
Dordt came out hot from beyond the arc, while Benedictine wasn't able to match that start en route to a 80-60 loss.
Benedictine took a 5-3 lead early before Dordt took off from behind the arc. The Defenders made 7 3-pointers in the first 11 minutes of the game to build out a 23-7 end that extended to a 31-11 lead with just over 6 minutes remaining before halftime.
Sparked by Noah Martens off the bench, the Ravens outscored the Defenders 22-11 over the final 6 minutes of the half to pull within 9 points, 42-33 at the half.
Benedictine tried to carry the late first-half momentum into the second half pulling back within 9 points twice in the first 6 minutes before the Defenders were able to put the game out of reach for the Ravens.
Both teams finished with 20 points in the paint, so the Defenders' 3-point shooting proved to play a deciding factor in the final outcome.
Martens was the only Raven to reach double figures, finishing with 12 points. Calvin Blue added 9 points. Jevin Sullivan added 8 points while Larry Parker III and Deaglan Sullivan finished with 7 points each.
The Ravens remain on the road for their next two, traveling to Olathe, for the Jeff Uphaus Memorial Classic hosted by MNU on Nov. 6 and 7. They take on Harris-Stowe State University on Nov. 6 at 5:30 p.m. and then Midland University on Nov. 7 at 5:30 p.m.
